WTF?! MyPhone Agua Rio New Version; Don’t Buy Unless You Know It’s The Updated Unit

UPDATE: MyPhone has issued a software update for “old version” users updating them to a newer firmware with SD card installs. Read our guide on how to update here.

Maybe MyPhone didn’t think people would notice, but Rio’s Facebook groups have been abuzz for days now after the discovery of a new version of the budget smartphone being sold in stores. The updated phone is packing a newer kernel and build number (basically more up-to-date and optimized software), plus it has a revised case with a finger tab for pulling the back cover open. User reports have been saying that this version has a smoother interface than the old, and that’s enough to warrant a huge public outrage from early adopters (including us).

From a consumer standpoint, MyPhone has definitely messed up – essentially selling people an inferior unit at launch, and stealthily changing the version of the stocks later on as necessary. It’s a good thing people have noticed and started complaining about it, otherwise the local brand might not have even told us there’s a new unit / UI out there.

Question is: If MyPhone decides to update the older units to the new Kernel/Build, how are they planning to go about it? Are they going to have to make people go back to their stores and have it updated there? Do they even have the manpower to do that? And will we need to bring our receipts, and hope our data doesn’t get erased? Why couldn’t they have just sold us the new units in the first place?

And what about the ones who’ve already rooted their phones because the memory is too small and MyPhone didn’t have the decency to allow SD Installs without root access – are they screwed too? Why is MyPhone treating their loyal early adopters this way?

MyPhone has to fix this, someway or somehow. That or people who got burned will ultimately never choose a MyPhone again. And if you’re in the market for one, at least make sure you’re getting the new version before parting with your money. Because right now a lot of Rio owners are not happy – and you don’t want to be in the same boat.

Will you make a performance comparison? Especially how apps behave (youtube app lags on old version). I already re-swap my memory storage and unrooted my RIO so ready na for the update (kung magkakaroon ;))

So you’re bashing Myphone for basically listening to the complaints and improving the Rio?

Atleast myphone has the decency to listen to the loyal customers complaints and swiftly act on it,not unlike some local phone companies i know..

We should commend them instead of bashing the store..besides,no phone company is perfect, even samsung and specially apple makes goof ups every now and then..^_^

nag release sila ng MyPhone Rio Lite with apps directly to an SD card, kaya ina-update din nila yung MyPhone Rio para di magalit ang bumili nito.
