Believe it or not, the image you see above is the actual poster for a movie showing right now at Philippine mall cinemas nationwide. We’ll let that sink in for a bit. Because for a theatrical release of something that pertains to eSports and popular MOBA game DotA, it looks like the guy who made this poster didn’t even learn how to use Microsoft Paint. To be honest, we don’t know which is worse – the trailer or this poster. Because the trailer might just make you puke. You know, we’ve seen low budget B Movies, we’ve seen indies, we’ve seen wooden actors, but nothing could have prepared us for this:

We rarely ever do this to phones and even more so when we’re in the process of reviewing them, but the MyPhone Agua Rio just gave us no choice. Its ridiculously limited 1.55GB of app space guaranteed that we couldn’t even test the games we wanted to test on it. But what about the SD card, you say? Well, you can’t install on that either – it’s the phone’s biggest flaw for unrooted users. And so, here we are – rooting and doing a memory swap on the phone so we can run games on it and continue our review. In case you already own one and want to do the same though, here’s how. (Watch the video to see it happen step-by-step.)

We thought we’d give you a heads up as early as we can – since most blogs will likely post a crappy one-day review of the MyPhone Agua Rio and tell you how amazing it is and how it’s the best phone ever such and such – but here on our blog we actually test stuff in-depth and tell you what’s what. So here it is. We found a huge flaw with the Rio’s software, and it will affect users planning to install at least one or two games with 3D graphics. MyPhone’s UI doesn’t allow the user to install apps or use the MicroSD as extra app space.

Seems like the recent introduction of the Dual-Core Amethyst was just the tip of the iceberg for Cherry Mobile’s new brand of budget smartphones – they’ve just teased a new member of what seems to be part of a line of 7 new devices. This new phone is called the Topaz and it shares a lot of the same specs as the one before it – Dual-Core processor, 3.5” display, 2MP camera, and 2GB ROM. Not all of the specs were revealed though, but the price is the same – PHP 2,299. More importantly, Cherry Mobile is asking everybody to “guess the rest” of the line. 5 more phones to be revealed. Anyway, check out the specs of the Topaz below.

MyPhone looks to have a great smartphone in their hands with their new Rio – a device dubbed as their “newest affordable quad-core handset.” At a soft launch held yesterday at Robinson’s Galleria, the local brand started selling the new device for only PHP 4,999. That’s quite a bargain for the phone’s 5.0” HD display and the MediaTek 6582M processor – the latter packing Quad-Core performance and the current gaming favorite’s MALI 400 GPU. The rest of the features are no slouch either – with 1GB RAM for multitasking, USB OTG, and an 8MP AF camera. Check out the full spec sheet below.

We gotta hand it to Novo 7 Tech & the THL brand they distribute for their public relations – or the weirdness in how they manage it. On their Facebook fan page, they’ve decided to “educate” the commenters that are anticipating the price of their new Octa-Core phone – the THL W200S. Priced at USD$ 199 (or sometimes lower) from the THL Online store, Novo 7 posted a status message to clarify the overhead costs, taxes, and tarrifs on an average import so as to manage the expectations of potential buyers. Gotta give them props for honesty there.

Cherry Mobile is at it again with their newly announced Dual-Core phone called Amethyst. It is one of the first to not only get 3G HSPA+ access, but also has a Dual-Core processor for only PHP 2,299 – features we would normally expect from a PHP 3,000+ device. While the rest of the specs are nothing too exciting, consumers who are just looking for a small Android to run basic apps and have 3G access should be perfectly fine in picking one of these guys up. More specs and pictures below.
