Well what do you know? All our complaining may have had an effect on MyPhone. (maybe) They’ve just issued an OTA update for the original MyPhone Rio that allows for SD card installs. This is, we believe, a bit of an answer to consumers who felt a little slighted after noticing the local brand had silently released a new version of the phone and left them with an older version. Now with the update, original owners should be a bit happier. What’s more, you don’t have to root and memory swap your device anymore! So here’s a quick tutorial on how to UnSwap, UnRoot, and Update your device!

UPDATE: MyPhone has issued a software update for “old version” users updating them to a newer firmware with SD card installs. Read our guide on how to update here.

Maybe MyPhone didn’t think people would notice, but Rio’s Facebook groups have been abuzz for days now after the discovery of a new version of the budget smartphone being sold in stores. The updated phone is packing a newer kernel and build number (basically more up-to-date and optimized software), plus it has a revised case with a finger tab for pulling the back cover open. User reports have been saying that this version has a smoother interface than the old, and that’s enough to warrant a huge public outrage from early adopters (including us).

Have you heard of a locally-made movie called “DotA: Nakakabaliw?” Well if you haven’t, you should really get acquainted with it via our original article first. Simply put, its horrendous – we can’t really imagine how Philippine malls allowed it to show on their theaters. The poster is terrible, and the trailer is a total pukefest. But maybe you love / hate it for a completely different reason. Maybe it’s the glass-breaking, baby-silencing, dog-howling rap song that played through the trailer. Well if that’s the case, then you’re in luck. Because you can listen (watch) the whole rap song to your hearts content just after the jump. Brace yourself.

Happy Easter! Back in March, we had local startup “The Diff” drop by on the #BigTimeShow (3/15/2014) to talk about their phone accessories. In addition to custom cases, they were also planning on releasing something called the “Egg” Powerbank. True enough, its shaped like an egg and packs a decent 4,400mAh. Today, Easter Sunday, they’ve announced its availability to the public for PHP 1,300. Not bad for a quirky little powerbank from a local brand. You can check out a quick (unscripted) unwrapping of a black version below, as well as a link to it’s product page.

Believe it or not, the image you see above is the actual poster for a movie showing right now at Philippine mall cinemas nationwide. We’ll let that sink in for a bit. Because for a theatrical release of something that pertains to eSports and popular MOBA game DotA, it looks like the guy who made this poster didn’t even learn how to use Microsoft Paint. To be honest, we don’t know which is worse – the trailer or this poster. Because the trailer might just make you puke. You know, we’ve seen low budget B Movies, we’ve seen indies, we’ve seen wooden actors, but nothing could have prepared us for this:

UPDATE: MyPhone has issued a software update for “old version” users updating them to a newer firmware with SD card installs. Read our guide on how to update here.

We rarely ever do this to phones and even more so when we’re in the process of reviewing them, but the MyPhone Agua Rio just gave us no choice. Its ridiculously limited 1.55GB of app space guaranteed that we couldn’t even test the games we wanted to test on it. But what about the SD card, you say? Well, you can’t install on that either – it’s the phone’s biggest flaw for unrooted users. And so, here we are – rooting and doing a memory swap on the phone so we can run games on it and continue our review. In case you already own one and want to do the same though, here’s how. (Watch the video to see it happen step-by-step.)

UPDATE: MyPhone has issued a software update for “old version” users updating them to a newer firmware with SD card installs. Read our guide on how to update here.

We thought we’d give you a heads up as early as we can – since most blogs will likely post a crappy one-day review of the MyPhone Agua Rio and tell you how amazing it is and how it’s the best phone ever such and such – but here on our blog we actually test stuff in-depth and tell you what’s what. So here it is. We found a huge flaw with the Rio’s software, and it will affect users planning to install at least one or two games with 3D graphics. MyPhone’s UI doesn’t allow the user to install apps or use the MicroSD as extra app space.
