The Nokia N9

Smart is doing some very aggressive locking down on markets these days as it seems to have gotten exclusive rights to Nokia’s N9 “flagship” Meego device basing from their Tweet right here. We’re not sure if it’s a timed exclusive like it does with most of HTC’s handsets, but for now you should only be able to get one through Smart Communications. Details on a prepaid unit are still unavailable, but for postpaid you can get the 16GB version of the (front) button-less device with their Plan 3500 or add PHP 1,200 to get the 64GB version.

Interestingly, you should remember that the Nokia N9 is using a Micro SIM slot, so any buyers should be aware that your regular SIM cards won’t be able to work. Smart’s Micro SIM have been around but probably not have been as prominent as Globe’s Micro SIM use for their iPhone exclusive phones.

The Meego N9 is the Finnish company’s Linux-based flagship running a completely different OS – which will probably become a one-off product. Intel have moved on to a different platform from Meego, and Nokia will definitely adopt Windows Phone for its future products. Still, the N9 can be a pretty compelling device. We’ve featured it a couple of times already in our articles, particularly in our preview video. For more details, you can check those out, but to recap it has a 1Ghz processor, 3.9” 854×480 screen, 8MP camera, dual LED flash, 720x30p video, and a front facing camera.

So far Nokia’s Windows Phones haven’t gone official yet so its safe to assume that for the next couple of months the N9 and the Symbian Belle devices will be the Belle of the Ball, so to speak. Check them out at your local Nokia stores or at Smart’s Jump Center!
