The Nokia 701
Nokia Philippines have recently invited us to attend a sneak peek into their new Symbian Belle lineup – the Nokia 701 and 700 touchscreen smartphones. These devices are running on Symbian’s newest incarnation called Belle, which improves upon the already-improved-upon Symbian Anna. New features include a drop down notification bar ala-Android, and custom widget sizes which should make populating your homescreens a lot more organic. Some other enhancements include an added 3 extra homescreens (total of 6) and better NFC integration. The 700 and 701 devices are expected to be available in October.
The Nokia 700
The Nokia 700 is the smaller of the two devices with a 3.2” 360×640 AMOLED display. It’s got a 1ghz processor, 5MP fixed focus camera with LED flash, 720x30fps video recording, and all running under Symbian Belle. The 701, which reminds us of the C7 design, will also run Belle but with a slightly larger 3.5” 360×640 display – but curiously using an IPS LCD and not AMOLED. It also has a 1ghz processor, 8MP fixed focus camera with dual LED flash, 720x30fps video recording, and a VGA front facing camera. Accessories include the Nokia Play 360 and the Nokia Bluetooth Stereo Headset BH-111, among others. The Play 360 can be paired with your NFC-capable Nokia Belle devices (both the 701 and 700) by merely tapping your phone onto the NFC tag on top. Simplifying those Bluetooth pairing problems.

Both phones will also come with a couple of free programmable NFC tags to play with. These can provide certain information such as turning them into an NFC business card, link to a website, or other types of data. Nokia also mentioned that they’re working on allowing paid apps onto their Ovi Store via operator billing – a completely new and interesting prospect that should allow us to finally get paid apps here in the Philippines.
The Nokia 700 and 701 should be available this October among Nokia retailers. The official SRP isn’t fixed, but CMKCellphones has them for PHP 15,000 for the 701 and PHP 13,700 for the 700. Grab one now if you’re so inclined. And if you want to check out more of the user interface of these devices, check out our preview videos of them below.
