The Dimensity 8000 series has been an excellent contender for the upper midrange, mostly budget scene in the smartphone race. It is equipped within the Redmi K50, realme GT Neo3 or even much more expensive handsets like the Reno8 Pro+. Now, a new rumor from Weibo suggests that the successor of the 8000/8100 is just around the corner.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8100

Weibo stalwart Digital Chat Station has shared yet again early information regarding this chipset. He stated that it’s currently on the works and will be announced late this year. It is safer to take this to the bank with his hitrate of supplying information is good.

Though, not much has been unraveled by him regarding the specifications of the successor which sparks anonymity and speculation from our side. ARM are having problems with the ARMv9 architecture, with their first shot with the X2, A710 and A510 designs. This has been expounded by Geekerwan in his in depth Chinese video on YouTube explaining configurations of chips and their fabrications from different manufacturers.

The Dimensity 8000/8100 series were successful as MediaTek equipped them with the excellent A78 and A55 designs and fabbed by TSMC’s 5nm node. If MediaTek uses the A710, it might take a hit in the new chip’s reliability as the A710 is weirdly inferior to the A78, despite ARM’s claims of improvement. Though, it raises more questions if MediaTek decides to jump to the A715 design, which was announced recently, as the new core isn’t out yet on any silicon out in the market.

The successor of the Dimensity 8000/8100 has some large shoes to fill as the series was popular and even declared by certain media as the best chip to beat or even better than the Dimensity 9000 with the impeccable performance and efficiency.
