Upcoming 6nm MediaTek Chip Could Be As Powerful As Snapdragon 865

Along with the unveiling of the MediaTek Dimensity 700 as a stepping stone for budget devices in 5G capabilities. MediaTek has also teased another chip to be released in the higher end market. 

The teaser poster contains the phrases “Premium platform” and “Coming Soon”. Phrases that indicate that the chip is designated for the upper midrange or even flagship market. Below that are “6nm”, which confirms that the chip will be made on the 6nm fabrication process which is rumored by TSMC. Also beside that is “A78” which points out that the CPU design opted by the chipmaker is the newest design by ARM, the Cortex-A78. And “3.0GHz”, which imply the maximum speeds of a core in the chip is at 3.0GHz.

Aside from the MediaTek teaser, rumors from Weibo float around regarding the said processor. Tipster Digital Chat Station implied that the chip could run on AnTuTu with scores of up to 600,000 and above. This is the score of the Snapdragon 865 devices recorded. It could indicate that the MediaTek chip will be a powerhouse to be equipped on future devices. 

DCS added that the chip has two versions, a “high frequency” and a “low frequency”. It means that the upcoming chip mighg have an overclocked or underclocked version. 
The launch and name of the chip is currently behind the curtain of the Taiwanese semiconductor company.
