Every year, midrange mobile platforms with Qualcomm and MediaTek plagued different smartphones with different categories. The current year, 2020, is no exception. Impressively, silicon manufacturers not only improved the performance of these midrange chips, but also has added 5G capabilities.

Latest Geekbench results from the chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek, the Snapdragon 690 and the Dimensity 720 respectively, has undergo Geekbench testing. Their results give interesting figures, to say the least.

The numbers projected by these chips show performance similar to a higher midrange chip, the Snapdragon 730. This is true with both single and multi threaded tests of the alleged benchmark.

This is promising considering the two chips are targeted at the lower end of the midrange segment. Also, they offer other connectivity improvements such as the support for Sub 6GHz 5G.

It is only a matter of time that we’d see more budget oriented 5G devices, especially with the likes of Redmi, realme, Honor and the like which are capable of bringing high price to performance ratio.

The Snapdragon 690 is reported to get featured on a Nokia and OnePlus device. Other manufacturers such as Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo may also use it as well. On the other hand, this is also true with the MediaTek Dimensity 720. It is now rumored to launch with the realme V5, teased a lot lately in China and the OPPO A72 5G.
