The Huawei P40 series launches yesterday in an online event. The P40 series, like Huawei’s previous flagships, focuses on the cameras. The Huawei P40 series is the successor for their Huawei P30 series that introduced a set of standards for last year.

A noticeable change, compared to their predecessors, along the three devices are much more powerful internals, a redesign for style and ergonomics and its better cameras. Common about the devices is they are equipped with a HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G chip, found on their Mate 30 series last year.

Starting with the Huawei P40. The front features a 6.7″ Full HD AMOLED panel at 1080p pixels across. The display has a punch-hole cutout that has the selfie camera.
The device has IP53 rating for splash and dust ingress protection. The outside is skinned with a 3D glass body which helps with ergonomics.
Aside from the Kirin 990 5G mentioned earlier, the device is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage which is expandable via an NM card.

A 50MP sensor is placed for the main camera at f/1.9 without OIS. The sensor is one of the largest, at 1/1.28″, even bigger than the Samsung HMX and HM1 found on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra respectively. This also has a 16 to 1 pixel binning technology which pushes out a whopping 4.48-micron size pixels when active.
The main camera is accompanied by a 16MP ultrawide camera and an 8MP 3X optical zoom Telephoto camera.

Inside the cutout on the display is a 32MP camera.

Powering the device is a 3800mAh cell with support for up to 22.5W fast charging.

As for the Huawei P40 Pro, it has a Nano-Tech ceramic cover which attributes for its aesthetics. The device is IP68 water and dust resistant which is enough for accidental dips and splashes.

The front flaunts a 90Hz quad-curved OLED display at 6.58 inches. The difference, here in the Pro model, is the camera system housed in the pill punch-hole cutout. It carries the same 32MP camera and alongside with a hybrid IR-Depth-Gesture sensor.

Internals are similar to the standard version. A 4200mAh battery is chucked in the Pro device alongside with a 40W fast charging, 27W wireless fast charging and 5W reverse wireless charging capabilities.

The cameras are improved upon here, hence I think the “Pro” moniker is for. It carries the same main sensor at 50MP but with OIS. The ultrawide camera is now swapped to a 40MP Cine camera. The third shooter is a 12MP Telephoto sensors with 5X optical zooming capabilities. The last sensor is a ToF module.

Finally, the Huawei P40 Pro+ is the devices which Huawei has flexed their muscles on. In terms of specifications, it is identical to the Huawei P40 Pro but with some nifty changes.
The wireless charging is now bumped up to 40W and has an oblique yet large memory configuration at 8GB and 512GB for RAM and storage.

The cameras is also upgraded. It now has 5 in total in its rear system. It uses the same 50MP sensor, a 40MP ultrawide, an 8MP Telephoto rear that has 10X zooming capabilities, and another 8MP telephoto camera which has 3X optical zoom. The device also has a ToF camera. 20X is its maximum hybrid zoom and 100X for digital.

The series has EMUI 10.1 on top of Android 10 AOSP. All of them are equipped with Huawei Mobile Services instead of Google Mobile Services.

The Huawei P40 and P40 Pro are now available for pre-order for PHP 36,990 and PHP 50,990 respectively. They will include freebies for up to PHP 12,285 ( including Freebuds 3, and Huawei Band 4 Pro — selected stores only). The period is from March 27 to April 24,2020. No word regarding about the Pro+ model
