Asus ROG Phone 2 Price In The Philippines Is…

Good news (Possibly) to the people who have been waiting for the Asus ROG Phone 2 to officially release in the Philippines! The pricing on the new gaming phone and the pre-order details have already been announced by Asus Philippines, and the devices will likely become available this mid October (we estimate).

We say we estimate because the official availability of the units haven’t been declared, but generally most launches like these will have the units available at most a week or so after the pre-order dates.

But when are the pre-order dates and more importantly HOW MUCH WILL THE ASUS ROG PHONE 2 COST IN THE PHILIPPINES? (You may want to sit down for this one.)

Well, the pre-order will go on from October 3 to 11. And the price of the ROG Phone 2 will be PHP 49,995 for the 12GB / 512GB variant. Our reaction is below.

Wha happun?

Ok, admittedly the converted price for the 12GB / 512GB variant is just right at PHP 49,995. But where are the lower priced variants like the 8GB / 128GB SKU? In China they launched a Tencent version for about PHP 30,000 / US$600 and a lot of ROG Phone 2 units are already available imported at those prices in the gray market.

Heck, they launched the 8GB / 128GB variant in India last week for INR 37,999 – about PHP 28,000. Why didn’t we get that variant? We’re as confused as you are.

Admittedly, this is still much better than last years’ ROG Phone 1, which was priced the exact same PHP 49,995 for only the 8GB / 128GB unit but with a higher priced higher storage variant.

So will we ever get the 8GB / 128GB variant to compete with other gaming phones like the Black Shark 2 and Nubia Red Magic 3 at the PHP 20k-30k price points (US$400-600) or at least so we can have a ROG Phone 2 price point comparable with India and maybe even China? We have no idea, but its unlikely as Asus PH typically launches the lowest variant first.

That said, Asus did say they have another announcement on October 11, 9PM, during their livestream launch on their FB Fan page. We can only hope they’re announcing an 8GB / 128GB variant at a competitive price.

And so, this is what the Philippines gets:

Asus ROG Phone 2 – PHP 49,995 (12GB / 512GB Variant)

  • Snapdragon 855 Plus Processor
  • 6.59″ 2340×1080 AMOLED 10-Bit HDR 120Hz / 1ms Display (No Notch)
  • 48MP Wide + 13MP Ultrawide Rear Cameras
  • 24MP Front Camera
  • Android 9.0 with Asus ROG UI
  • 12GB RAM / 512GB ROM / No MicroSD Card Slot
  • Dual Nano SIM LTE
  • In-Display Fingerprint Scanner
  • 6,000 mAh Battery USB Type C 30w ROG HyperCharge direct charging
  • 3.5mm Headphone Jack
  • Dual Front Facing Speakers with DTS:X Ultra
  • Free In Box: AeroActive Cooler II (PHP 2,995) & Aero Case (PHP 995)

Admittedly, the 8GB / 128GB variant of the ROG Phone 2 doesn’t get the free AeroActive Cooler II and Aero Case, but we still don’t think that’s enough to not sell that version in the Philippines, given that they’re so readily available in the gray market.

And neither does the freebie from the Pre-Order make it anywhere near worth it. If you pre-order during the October 3-11 period, you get a free ROG Jacket supposedly worth PHP 2,495. Asus getting inspiration from Willy Revillame, we guess. I mean, do you even wear a jacket at all most of the year in the Philippines? Anyway, we digress.

If you’re still interested in the high storage variant – which might be the only variant here – then it is decently priced at PHP 49,995. Comparable with the price point from other countries – for at least the same storage. Pre-order details will be finalized and posted on the Asus ROG Philippines fan page on October 2 at 9PM Philippine time. Have at it if you’re in the market!
