ESGS 2018 Is Starts Today And You Should Definitely Go, Like Really

Listen, I’m a simple gamer duder. I see an authentic, grassroots, proper gaming convention, I support it. ESGS is that gaming convention; and it is happening right now until Sunday this week at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City. (October 26 to 28, 2018) And let me just say this, in all my years of covering gaming and tech this is the only Philippine convention I’ve seen that really provides the booths, products and services I’d really love as a gamer. So many brands are attending now that you can pretty much name your gaming preference and you’ll likely have something to do, buy, or even check out at ESGS – especially this year.

So this year, ESGS is taking the whole of SMX and by that I also mean its bigger than it’s ever been before. Honestly it’ll be like walking into the Philippine’s biggest Cyberzone, (if you pardon the SM naming) except there’s a lot more free stuff, there’s brands you never see in Malls, lots of gaming products discounted, merchandise, gaming tournaments for your favorite eSport, and gaming brands and communities come out of the woodwork to celebrate and enjoy this hobby we’ve gotten ourselves into.

Listen to this holy bucketload of booths:

Gaming Peripherals:

  • HyperX
  • Steelseries
  • Zowie
  • Gamdias
  • Sennheiser (I will definitely check this booth out if the discounts are good and maybe if they accept CC.)
  • Razer
  • Red Dragon (affordable gaming peripheral brand, worth checking if you need budget stuff)
  • Brazen Gaming Chairs
  • Corsair (premium stuff, wonder if they have any discounts)
  • Bloody
  • Logitech (my simulation racing wheel brand!)
  • Asus
  • MSI

Gaming PC / Gaming PC Components:

  • AoC
  • PowerColor
  • Zotac
  • NZXT (woah they have their own booth, damn)
  • Crucial & Ballistix
  • Galax
  • Corsair (they also have Corsair components, so I listed them twice)
  • Sharp
  • Asus
  • MSI
  • Acer
  • Omen by HP

Game Developers:

  • KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS <3 (yo, you better go to support our Kojima-otosan lol)
  • Capcom (play some games!)
  • Boomzap
  • Ranida Games
  • Gravity
  • Benilde Game Universe
  • IGDA Philippines
  • Erotes Studio (????? that name)

Merchandise (I’m not an expert in merch, but if you like collecting cute stuff or t-shirts, there’s a ton of them, look at the map photo above to see all 20+)

Artist Alley (get your artworks here, there’s a whopping 30 booths. That’s a lot of art. Go get ’em)

And of course there’s 10 food places to grab a bite from – and don’t forget a bunch of energy drink booths will likely have samples or something similar to keep your food down and energy up!

So yeah, listen. I admit even as I have access to a lot of games and gaming peripherals at home, this is a huge convention to attend and just have a good time in. Also, PLDT-Smart, together with ESPN 5 and RCBC will host the Grand Finals for DotA 2 and Tekken 7 at the event with up to 1.2M PHP at stake for DotA 2 and 300k PHP for Tekken. That’s some serious money.

Sidebar! You can also watch the DotA 2 and Tekken 7 tournaments live on several places including GG Network’s Facebook page, Sports 5 YouTube page, and Aksyon CH. 41 on UHF on October 27 7PM and October 28 6PM.

Fighting game fans would be very well represented too, since Playbook Esports will have their own booth and mini tourneys throughout the days which include games like SF5, MvCI, SSBWiiU, Tekken 7, BlazBlue, GGXrd Rev 2, BB Tag, DBFZ. And if you win, you’ll even be sent as a representative for EVO Japan 2019 in Fukuoka, Japan. (Not sure who handles your Visa, costs, etc. tho.)

And oh hey, Cosplayers are welcome too! So if you’re in the cosplay community as either a cosplayer or you’re a photographer or like taking selfies with cosplayers. That’s there too!

I mean, what else is there that I need to say to convince you to go? This is like E3, but more accessible and more affordable! Tickets are only PHP 210 per day.

Link to buy the tickets online is here, but you should be able to buy tickets at the SMX venue itself until they last of course!
