Amidst the transportation chaos that will ensue this week due to lack of MRT coaches (only 8 out of 20 trains will be running starting Monday, May 11), we may have a little bit of positive news: The Philippines is the first country in the world to accept and create regulations for Ridesharing Apps, making services like Uber, GrabCar, EasyTaxi and other services completely legal. DOTC will publish a new category of transportation called the Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) that these services will fall under later this week.
As a frequent user of these services, this couldn’t have come at a better time. Taxis are becoming less and less reliable these days and nobody thinks they’re that safe anymore. Assuming no government body just wanted their hands on the Ridesharing cookie jar, then this could at least push our transportation quality up a little.
