After months of delays and multiple attempted variants, Asus’ upcoming ZenFone 2 has finally been cancelled. The followup to the original 4, 5, & 6 inch budget smartphone was slated for release early this year, but in a stockholders’ meeting today CEO Jerry Garate finally confirmed the recall.
“We tried our best to bring the PNX1 (the ZenFone 2’s engineering name) to the market but failed. We initially planned to sell a higher spec model, but due to manufacturing issues we’ve only managed to release a small batch of units with a slower processor,” says Garate. After complaints from users and waiting consumers started coming in, the Taiwanese manufacturer had no recourse but to recall it’s intended shipments.
The news is definitely a blow to the smartphone industry, but thankfully CEO Garate had this to say, “Please stay tuned for our next project: the LNX.” Is this the real deal or will it turn out to be just another Illusion?
