While the world still awaits the arrival of the recently announced Zenfone 2, Asus already seems to be looking into creating as many variations for specific markets. Aside from the already announced lower-spec 64-Bit Atom variant, the company announced they will be adding Qualcomm & MediaTek versions for different markets. Confused? We are too. At this point we don’t even know what kind of Zenfone 2 we’ll finally see in the Philippines.
According to Focus Taiwan, Asus is planning on releasing a Qualcomm-based variant on Q2 to “target the mainstream market.” And for markets like India where LTE isn’t popular, a 3G MediaTek variant is in the works as well.
While we don’t yet know what kind of market we fall into, Asus CEO Jerry Shen estimated that 40-50 percent of Zenfone 2’s will be powered by the Qualcomm chips, while 50-60 will either be MediaTek or Intel.
Wait what? So only a third of the Zenfone 2’s will have it’s original specs? Scratch whatever we told you about Zenfone 2. Its original promise of 4GB RAM Lollipop goodness and 64-Bit Atom processor is NOT what majority of the world will get.
