Owners of the Asus Nexus 7 2013 (and of course the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2012, & Nexus 10) should be expecting a nice little update icon on their notification shade sometime soon because it looks like the much awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update is rolling out in OTA (Over The Air) form. Our tablet was urging us to hit the “Install & Reboot” button earlier today around 5:30AM (GMT+8) and lo-and-behold we got our taste of the chocolate-covered wafer in OS form. The tablet in question is of course our current Nexus 7 2013. However our Nexus 7 2012 still hasn’t gotten its update. Google is probably rolling out the update in device batches so their servers won’t implode. Anyway, we got a few screenshots of the KitKat-updated interface for you below so check it out!

Our Nexus 7 unit is of course unrooted and have the stock Jelly Bean ROM (updated to latest firmware). We’re not using any special skins or launchers and the pictures above are basically pure vanilla KitKat. The update is 242.5MB in size and has the new build number of KRT16S. We’ll be recording a video of what kind of changes we’ve seen in this update so stay tuned for that as well. For the time being though, hold on to your Nexuseses and wait for that little notification ding!
