In the wake of one of the largest typhoons in the world that just hit our country, several outlets have been doing what they can to provide relief to our affected families and friends in the Visayas region. To that effect, many of us are looking for creative ways to donate to the relief efforts down south. Aside from straight up donations in cash or kind, one online gadget retailer is doing a similar effort in the form of a sale with a percentage of proceeds going into a donation. Widget City is now offering the Nokia Lumia 920 & the 620 at reduced prices and as a bonus includes a donation to the Philippine Red Cross.

The Nokia Lumia 920 Red will be priced at PHP 12,990 (PHP 11,990 for other colors), while the 620 Red is being sold at PHP 8,990 (PHP 7,990). Those would be some pretty good prices, especially since the SRP for them are generally a few thousand pesos over these prices. As a bonus, Widget City says they will have the official 1 Year Warranty from Nokia Philippines – giving consumers a little bit more peace of mind when it comes to buying the devices.

Of course the main point here is to help out the victims of typhoon Yolanda, which has been recorded as one of the most powerful storms – if not the most powerful storm – recorded by man. While some may find that buying a gadget at this time may be a little selfish, you can’t always convince people into parting with their money without at least a token in return. This way, consumers who already are saving up for a new phone can still help our friends in the Visayas region.

Note: We take it some retailers may take this cue and offer their own version of a sale / relief effort as well. We will try to keep you guys posted of any new developments to that effect that we might find.

Most importantly though, our heart goes out to the families that have been affected by the storm. We wish they are safe and hope they can rebuild what they have lost.
