What kind of camera can you buy with PHP 15,000 anyway? A nice, shiny point & shoot; a halfway-decent megazoom bridge camera; or even an enthusiast compact like the Canon S95 or Panasonic LX5 if you look hard enough. But wait, what about an Interchangeable Lens Compact? These are those DSLR-quality shooters that pack a punch but also promise great portability. They’re expensive, you say? Well not anymore. We bought this Olympus E-PL1 micro 4/3 ILC (with 14-42 kit) for only PHP 15,000 – and we’re damn happy about it. What you have right here is a large sensor 12MP camera with interchangeable lenses, pop-up flash, hotshoe mount, scene modes, art filters, 2.7” 230k dot live view display, and more bells and whistles to make a consumer DSLR-owner excited. This is the cheapest ILC you can get out there, but has also been proven to deliver some of the best quality images against it’s peers.
