Cherry Mobile Cosmo and Orbit

While visiting the local Cherry Mobile store in SM Marikina yesterday, we noticed something new with the list of Android phones on the bottom of their flyer. Two new Google-equipped Cherry mobiles have popped up. One you can argue to be the cheapest available so far, and the other, probably one of the first Dual SIM Dual Standby Androids to date.

The Cherry Mobile COSMO is an Android 2.2 Froyo-running device with a 3.2” 480×360 resolution capacitive screen and 600Mhz Processor. What’s amazing about this phone is that Cherry Mobile have managed to keep its price at a very low price of PHP 6,899. This is arguably the cheapest unlocked Android phone available today – and the specs aren’t even that bad compared to the other budget Androids.

Next up is the Cherry Mobile ORBIT, which pretty much have the same Froyo running, 3.2” 480×360 resolution screened device, but with a 528Mhz processor. This one, however, has one of the more popular features for local phones these days: Dual-SIM, Dual-Standby support. Having been juggling two SIM cards myself, I can see this model will now be the best way to upgrade to an Android phone, especially if you’ve gotten used to the Dual SIM feature phones of the past. The ORBIT is priced at PHP 12,999 which is near the price of other budget Android competitors without the Dual SIM capability.

We weren’t able to ask the Cherry Mobile branch in Marikina if the phones were already available in store, however, from our previous post, we didn’t notice any other droids on their shelf so we assume these new ‘droids are still not out on stores just yet. But rest assured, seeing as how they exist in flyers and in their websites, these phones will be coming.

Looks like Cherry Mobile is stepping up their Android game with these two new, and very affordable additions to their lineup. Let’s hope we can take them out for a spin once they become available!

We’re investigating ung WiFi hotspot problem. My personal unit’s wifi hotspot works, but my friend’s unit doesn’t. We’ll try to reach our Cherry Mobile contact for his comment if there is some sort of fix or problem to address.

Angry Birds works sa Orbit namin, but its slow so di rin sya naman playable. 528Mhz processor lang kasi sya and for Angry Birds 600Mhz na siguro minimum.

For Office document viewing, try “Mobile Document Viewer”. It might fit your needs.

For market apps, marami namang pwedeng gamitin. I use Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Shazam, YouTube, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger, MapDroyd, as well as some games like Sudoku, Farm Tower, Pinball, etc. I don’t play too much games on my phones din kasi.

Speakers and earpiece seem fine, medyo tinny as usual for budget phones. We shouldn’t compare it with Music-oriented phones so for smartphone purposes, they’re adequate. Pero will try it out more and let everyone know what we think in the review.
