The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 was launched this week in the Philippines and it looks to be a good competitor for a bit of wireless freedom in your gaming rig. Boasting an impressive battery life, 100+ EQ Presets designed in partnership with Professional players, and upgraded microphone bandwidth, it might deliver the Affordable Luxury consumers have been looking for. And the price of that luxury? Starting at PHP 7,765. Check out our quick video vlog about the launch embedded above, or read up on more specs below.

Nova 5P, Nova 5, and Nova 5X

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 / 5P / 5X – PHP 7,765 (Est. US$134) / PHP 7,995 (Est. US$138)

Pricing for the three variants

If you’re not familiar with SteelSeries’ gaming headset line, they usually have a PC version, PlayStation, and Xbox. In this case, it’ll be the Nova 5, Nova 5P (PlayStation), and Nova 5X (Xbox). There are some basic differences between the three, like color and packaging and price. But the one we recommend would be the Xbox version – since it works on all consoles while the 5 and 5P can’t connect to Xbox. Plus the Xbox variant has an extra control wheel for chat mix.

The headsets are compatible with most everything

Otherwise, if that doesn’t matter to you, then the PC version is slightly cheaper than both console variants.

You can connect the Nova 5 to both a Bluetooth device and the 2.4Ghz simultaneously, but can only listen to one device at a time. Thankfully, SteelSeries has a physical Quick Switch button so you can instantly switch to your phone to take a call – for example.

Here’s me face

SteelSeries have also improved the mic improved as well, offering twice the bitrate from 16 to 32KBPS. Theoretically this lessens the compressed quality of sound that you generally associate with low quality microphones.

The headphones are rated at 60H Battery on Bluetooth. 50 Hours on the 2.4Ghz Dongle. With both active, SteelSeries haven’t disclosed any data, but both of those numbers are already quite impressive. And the Nova 5 can gain 6 hours of use just from a short 15 minute charge – and you can use the headset while it is charging as well.

Side view

With our short time trying the Nova 5, we felt that the design was quite comfortable and light – even with our somewhat thick rimmed glasses frames. The buttons on the earcups were easy to find and operate, and the Microphone has a Mute LED to tell you if it is.

App is on Android & iOS

The app that SteelSeries has introduced is similarly good. It responds quickly and seems to work as expected. With the 100+ game presets, the list can be quite daunting but consumers will likely find it appealing to find their favorite game having an EQ preset.

We only had a few minutes with the Nova 5 at the event, so we can’t give you a clear verdict on the headphones yet, but it looks to be a good one from what we’ve seen. So if you’re interested in picking one up, check out any SteelSeries retailer – online or offline. We also have a link below if you want to shop for it online.
