Qualcomm’s rumored reply to Apple Silicon has surfaced out with more details. The SoC is designed to for laptop devices with Windows on ARM.
According to Twitter user @Za_Raczke, the SoC is the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4. He also previously tipped the SoC under the codename Hamoa. Stated by him, the 8cx Gen 4 will be the first product from Qualcomm to be equipped with IP from the Nuvia acquisition. That was announced by Qualcomm as the Oryon last Snapdragon Tech Summit.
The 8cx Gen 2 will have 12 cores, four performance cores and eight efficiency cores. The set of cores are running at 3.4GHz and 2.5GHz respectively. For cache, 12MB L2 cache will be shared between the cores, 8MB L3 cache, 12MB system cache and 4MB graphics cache. It will support LPDDR5X memory running up to 4200MHz.
Its GPU will be the same as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Adreno 740. Though unknown if it will have additional tweaks for it being a laptop SoC. Eight lanes of PCIe 4.0 are also rumored. For its modem, the Snapdragon X65 5G modem is tipped.
The IO will be two USB 3.1 10Gb/s, as well as three USB 4 (Thunderbolt 4) ports with DisplayPort 1.4a. Display output is concurrently supported of up to 5K+4K+4K. Video decode maxes at 4K 120fps and encode of 4K 60fps with AV1.
For the launch, our guess that it will be unveiled on the next Snapdragon tech summit late this year alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Rumored from Weibo refute the inclusion of the Oryon CPU on the mobile platform this generation and speculates that the “SM8750” or Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be having it.
