The absence of the Snapdragon 7 series in the midrange was the result of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 not being able to perform up to par in terms of both yield and actual performance. The SoC was only featured on the Xiaomi Civi 2, even that has yet to be launched globally. Although that might change according to a new report from Weibo stating that the successor will be a huge upgrade

Appropriately named Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, Digital Chat Station stated that the SoC will garner a better microarchitecture than that of the Dimensity 8000 series. Currently, the Dimensity 8200 is packed in four Cortex A78 and A55 cores. That would mean that the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 will have ARM v9 CPU designs likely to be A710/A715 and the A510.

He also continued to describe an alleged benchmark result from the Redmi prototype device. The purported handset scored 900,000. That is a huge uplift over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and 782G which just scores just shy of 600,000. It will also be better than the 2021’s flagship SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888 and just under the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from last year.

The 7 Gen 2 is also likely to be efficient thanks to the Weibo stating that it would be manufactured by TSMC’s 4nm process alike to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
