After months of rumors, Qualcomm is set to announce their new flagship chip this November 15 at Hawaii on their Snapdragon Tech Summit. Earlier this year by a month, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is set to power devices as soon as later this month in some key markets and most of 2023. Before its launch, a new rumor surface out from Weibo that may catch the industry off guard.

Weibo user experiencemore has posted that Qualcomm may unveil two variations of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. This coincides to the convoluted rumors on other sources regarding frequency differences on its Cortex X3 core. The screenshots shown on the Weibo show that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 clocks in at 3.36GHz. This rhymes to the Geekbench 5 results of the Galaxy S23 device. Though, experiencemore also expounded that the 8 Gen 2 will have a lower tier variant with a slower CPU and GPU configuration.

Also according to Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on some Chinese manufacturers from Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo run at 3.19GHz on its Cortex X3 core. If this materializes, this isn’t actually the first time Qualcomm launches two variants of their flagship SoC. This happened with the Snapdragon 820 way back. Notably, the Xiaomi Mi 5 32GB variant having a slower running Snapdragon 820, model MSM8996 Lite.

This may have a stir up on their Snapdragon 8 lineup. If true, it unravels more questions.  What would be the naming scheme of the Snapdragon 8 lineup? What will happen on the mid cycle refresh that was the Plus variant of the chip that has launched earlier that generation? Your guesses are as good as ours.
