Redmi China has been popular with the K series since 2019. The lineup has been always an annual treat in terms of price to performance offerings for the domestic Chinese market as well as the series’ global rehashes. As of writing, the 2023 Redmi K lineup is now on the works and bits of details surface out.
A reliable insider from Weibo micro blogging site has unveiled some details of the Redmi K60 series. He stated that the devices will be powered by 4nm Qualcomm and MediaTek chips, both fabbed by TSMC. This rules out the use of the troubled Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The chips used are expected to deliver flagship grade performance, though no clues are displayed as of writing which chips they are. At the bare minimum, we may see the Pro version don a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It is entirely possible that it gets the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, launched for a while at the time of the K60 launch.
The standard version may get the Dimensity 9000 or the Plus version, currently the star of MediaTek’s camp. The successor of the 9000 series is unlikely but possible. Another probability is the iteration after the Dimensity 8000 series. The 8000 chips maybe midrange, but it punches above their weight rivalling even the Snapdragon 888, so a successor to that chip is far from a slouch, we speculate.
Aside from the chips, the tipster also stated that they will get a 50MP sensor and will maintain the Quad HD high refresh rate display. The 50MP sensor is not known, but netizens of Weibo speculate that it maybe the Sony IMX 766 which is currently present on the Huawei P50, ROG Phone 6 and a mountain of OPPO, realme and OnePlus devices. The Redmi K60 series are expected to debut at the later part of Q1 next year or along Q2.
