It has been for quite a while since Xiaomi has released their flagship lineup, the Xiaomi 12 series. With talks of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus bringing improved performance, rumors regarding the upgraded Xiaomi 12 has been circulating throughout Weibo. Aside from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, not much has been known about the 12S.
Xiaomiui has been digging through codenames and brought the “unicorn” codename to light. They reported that the name is revealed to be a part of an upgraded Xiaomi 12. The Xiaomi 12S will also be accompanied by a Xiaomi 12S Pro. Both of them were spotted on IMEI database and Mi Code.
Xiaomi 12S touts the codename “diting”, a Chinese mythical creature and the Pro version “unicorn”, a popular mythical animal. The devices are expected to follow the Xiaomi 12 series on their unique selling points with the 12S packing in a more efficient chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.
In case you didn’t know, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus has been speculated to be more power efficient and faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The silicon is tipped to be fabbed by TSMC and will be on devices this Q3.
The rumors regarding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus points the possible release date of the Xiaomi 12, Q3 2022 onwards. Not much is known regarding its exact launch date nor even its key specifications.
