With Qualcomm facing a decent amount of dilemma with their Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 having bleak reception. The chip maker is rumored to keep up in pace against their competition by releasing the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 “Plus” at an earlier date expected later this month and devices this June. But a new report shows that not only the refreshed 8 Gen 1 is having an earlier release.

Digital Chat Station has tipped in a Weibo blog that “8550” or “SM8550” will be coming earlier than usual, as early as Q3 of 2022 and devices this Q4. If you’re not familiar, SM8450 and SM8475 are model numbers for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8 Gen 1+ respectively. Therefore, 8550 is the successor of the chips or assumingly called the 8 Gen 2.

As of the moment, there are no concrete evidences regarding the specifications of the upcoming chip. But it is expected that if the silicon gets revealed Q3 this year, we may see devices touting it as early as late this year even though the 8 Gen 2 is a chip designed for 2023 flagship devices.

Other rumors from other Weibo accounts hint that the San Diego firm may change the 1+3+4 CPU core setup and sever the Cortex-A510 cores and just use the A710 or the upcoming “A720” cores from ARM. Though, take this with more pinch of salt since there are no track record to back this.
