A new upper midrange Qualcomm chip has filled the rumor mill as reliable tipster Digital Chat Station has posted details regarding the alleged chip. This chip, according to the details tipped, is said to succeed the Snapdragon 780G and 778G in the midrange market.

According to DCS, the new Snapdragon 7 series chip is on the works. It has a 4+4 CPU core layout based on ARM. Its GPU is named as “Adreno 662”. Added to that, he noted that the alleged SoC will not be coming soon and midrange devices like the recently launched Huawei P50e and the rumored Xiaomi 12 Lite will don a Snapdragon 778G.

Notably, the CPU core layout has been used for quite a while now by Qualcomm. It is present on previous flagship chips like the Snapdragon 888 back to 855 and even the 778G and 780G duo already built on it. All of those chips offered promising performance for their respective segment. The Adreno 662 GPU, from its name, seems to be a derivative of the Adreno 660 which was with the Snapdragon 888.

Currently there are no performance estimates stated by the leaker. Our guess? Based on Qualcomm’s trajectory of their latest Snapdragon 7 series from AnTuTu, it is likely that it would tie with the Snapdragon 865.
