Late last year, Qualcomm unveiled their Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for flagship devices this year. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has been seen already on a plethora of devices launched in China such as the Xiaomi 12 series, OnePlus 10 Pro, iQOO 9 and others. As for its performance, it’s not looking so bright as different reviewers are facing heating issues just like the Snapdragon 888. However, a new chip from Qualcomm is rumored for a potential fix to these issues.

Digital Chat Station tips the alleged “Plus” chip way before the 8 Gen 1 announcement

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus rumors started when Digital Chat Station started mentioning its part number, “SM8475”. Before even a rumored name surfaced, it was obvious that SM8475 was a derivative of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with “SM8450” part number.

Roland Quandt from Winfuture mentions the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus moniker

The rumor says that “SM8475” is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 but built on TSMC’s fab instead of Samsung due to issues with yield not reaching the chipmaker’s quota. As of writing, it is not clear if SM8475 will have a frequency boost just like the Plus versions of the flagship processors came before. “Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus” moniker came from rquandt from Twitter when he tipped an upcoming device, the Motorola Frontier 22, to be equipped with one. He explained in one of his replies that the part number change is due to the fact that Qualcomm will be switching fabs with the Plus version.

As of right now, there are a few devices rumored to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. Digital Chat Station and other Weibo accounts have tipped two of them. One is a Xiaomi 12 Pro, launch earlier with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, derivative. The other is an OPPO handset likely to fall under the Find umbrella. The other two were tipped by rquandt and evleaks, Frontier 22 from Motorola and Lenovo Legion “Halo”.

The announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is unclear but the rumor says that it will be like the Plus variants of the flagship chips before, Q3 of this year.

While the current devices are full of issues, we hope that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus brings improvements on the second wave of devices.
