Huawei now often relies on Qualcomm parts to fuel its flagship devices with the likes of the Huawei P50 using 4G only Snapdragon 888 chips due that the phonemaker has been crippled by sanctions before and had difficulties in sourcing out hardware components. Now another rumor from a notable tipster from China that this trend will continue.

Digital Chat Station from Weibo claims that the alleged device will arrive on the first quarter of next year, 2022, tugging along an LTE-only variant of the Snapdragon 898 chip.

This information makes a conflict with an earlier report that the series will be introduced by the company this coming October or that the device availability will have a long lull from its introduction. The chipset is named as “SM8425” which is a deviation from the parts that ending with “50” or SMXX50″ such as the “SM8350” or “SM8250” which are the Snapdragon 888 and 865 respectively. Part number changing usually meant a tweak in the chip. Though, there is no exact information if SM8425 suffers a performance downgrade, or the name itself may denote the lack of 5G capabilities.
As for the next flagship Qualcomm chip, it is expected to be introduced later this year, while the Snapdrago 898 moniker isn’t official nor confirmed.
