It was just a few weeks ago when Qualcomm announced their improved Snapdragon 888 Plus chip. This was to power some of the flagship devices at the later part of this year with the Plus version runs at 3GHz instead of 2.84GHz of the standard one. Now, some buzz around Weibo that keeps the rumor mill running regarding the successor of the 888 that will power the next wave of flagship devices next year.
Popular tipster Ice Universe has posted regarding the alleged chip on his Weibo account. He regarded it as the “Snapdragon 898” rather than “SM8450” which he usually quoted when talking about the chip. This may hint that Snapdragon 898 will be the marketing name. Aside from that is that he also heard information that the chip runs at 3.09GHz. This is higher than the usual 2.84Ghz of the non-Plus variant of the chips and usually stepping on the frequencies of the Plus variants that is typically released later in the year.

The silicon is also rumored to be subdivided into 4 clusters with a 1+3+2+2 configuration. Benchmark scores from AnTuTu soar as high as 1 Million and 1250 and 4000 for Geekbench 5 Single and Multi Core results.Aside from performance uplift, we can also expect that the chipmaker will hone the silicon’s connectivity, AI, ISP
