Qualcomm has been erratic in releasing silicon with the recent launch of the Snapdragon 888 and 870, both aimed at the flagship mobile market.
Now this time, the San Diego chipmaker maybe preparing two powerful silicon under the 700 series name. We have known one of which, bears the SM7350 internal name, is the planned successor of the widely popular Snapdragon 765. But another more powerful chip is rumored to slot in within to further close the gap of midrange performance and flagship.
Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo regarding this alleged chip. He “heard” that there is a flagship tier on the Snapdragon 700 series and is positioned higher than the successor of the 765G.
He noted that this will be the strongest midrange chipset, possibly against competitors like MediaTek, HiSilicon and the like.
He also did note that there might be a slightly binned down Snapdragon 888 mobile platform and will be positioned on the 700 series.
For now, Qualcomm has announced SM7350 as the Snapdragon 780G.
If correct, Qualcomm is targeting more chips than ever before thanks to MediaTek stepping up with their recent success of the Dimensity series offering inexpensive silicon for budget 5G devices.
