It was just recently that Qualcomm announced their flagship silicon for this year, the Snapdragon 888. But now, there is a rumor that the San Diego chip maker is scheduled to reveal an improved version of it, tentatively named “Snapdragon 888 Plus”.

Digital Chat Station on Weibo updated us information with a Weibo post pertaining to the Snapdragon 888 and the alleged Plus version of it. Stated also is when the upcoming chip will be revealed and used in devices which is indicated to be “currently tentative at the second half of the year”.

This does align to Qualcomm’s past traditions, notably in binning their chips, especially their flagship line, for the latter part of the year. This started with their partnership with ASUS for the first ROG Phone. Ever since, Qualcomm has announced a binned version of their flagship processor. So a rumor like this from a reputable source is likely, though to be taken still with a grain of salt.

As of specifications, it is expected to retain all the components from the Snapdragon 888. The exact changes of clock speeds and other tweaks are still currently unknown.
