With the release of the Snapdragon 865 last year, the San Diego chip maker made the platform separated from its modem and manufacturers had to pay a premium for it. This leads to rumors last time that Qualcomm may be doing the same this year again. Though new information from an insider contradicts.
The newly announced Snapdragon 888, according to Digital Chat Station, will have the same prices as their predecessors. If correct, disregarding any hardware changes that a manufacturer does to their future devices, means that Qualcomm may not raising their asking price for the new platform for manufacturers.
This is good news for everyone those who look for flagships at lesser budget, or even budget flagship devices that has been a tradition with Redmi and realme on the block. There may be no price hikes for these devices those who look for high price to performance ratio devices.
Moreover, manufacturers now freely can choose which to improve aside from the processor with the little extra.
The newly launched Snapdragon 888 is a 5nm chip, announced by Qualcomm just recently. It promises a performance uplift of 35% and efficiency improvements of up to 25%. Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo and many others are expected to bring this chip to their flagship devices early next year.
