Samsung Launches New Budget Galaxy A12 & A02s – Prices Start At PHP 7K!

If you’ve always wanted a Samsung Galaxy phone but your budget just didn’t permit it, then these new models might just fit the bill. The Galaxy A12 and A02s are the Korean brand’s newest budget offerings priced at PHP PHP 7,990 (or PHP 9,990 for 6GB variant) and PHP 6,990 respectively.

They’re powered by entry-level chips – with a MediaTek Helio P35 and Snapdragon 450 respectively. Both have 5,000 mAh battery for decent longevity, and have 6.5″ HD+ IPS displays with the Infinity-V teardrop / dewdrop cutout for their front cameras.

Their biggest differences are in the cameras. Quad Rear on the A12 with a 48MP main sensor, while you get a Triple Rear with 13MP main on the A02s. This gives the A12 with more pixels to work with and has an 5MP Ultrawide for more creative shots. Front cameras are 8MP and 5MP respectively, as well.

The Galaxy A12 is available in Black, Blue, or White. And the A02s is available in Black or Blue. The A12 6GB is available for 0% interest on Home Credit from Feb 5 to March 31. Also, buyers of A12 from February 5 to 14 will get a free 1-year subscription to Viu. (Viu is kind of like Netflix but with much more Korean and Filipino content.)

There is unfortunately no fingerprint scanner on the A02s, but it does feature face unlock from the front camera.

The A12 has an interesting texture on the back that separates the upper 2/3 of the back from the smooth bottom. It looks good in our opinion.

If you knew us you’d know we’d probably advocate for the A12 here – better cameras, fingerprint sensor, and such. But the Snapdragon processor on the A02s does inspire some envy, even if its an entry-level Qualcomm chip. Either way, check them both out if you’re in the market – online or offline.
