Ready for a surprise? Well Samsung has got some for you this year with it’s just-announced Samsung Galaxy S21 series. The popular flagship phone we all want to own is now bucking some trends to – in our opinion – change the industry once again for the better. (Mostly!)
As with last year we’re getting three S21 variants – S21 (base), S21+, and S21 Ultra. They’ll all be powered by an Exynos 2100 5nm processor with 5G or Snapdragon 888. In the Philippines, we’ll be getting the Exynos variant.
At the back, Samsung is now extending the aluminum body over the camera module. This way, the cameras will be well protected by metal and it also results in a new, striking design.
A big change this year is that curved displays are now replaced by flat 120hz ones. This is a great change – cause flat displays are better to look at and prevent accidental touches.
The S21 & 21+ will have 120Hz FHD+ displays with adaptive refresh for better battery life; and they max out at 1300 nits which is quite impressive. While the Ultra has a 120HZ WQHD+ with even better adaptive refresh and 1600 nits max brightness.
On camera specs, we see small changes but improvements over all – especially in the software. S21 and S21+ have 12MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and 64MP 3X Telephoto lenses for improved zoom quality and flexibility.
The S21 Ultra packs more megapixels and an extra zoom lens. 108MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x Telephoto and another 10MP 10x Telephoto for longer reach. Lastly, the Ultra gets a Laser AF module for better subject acquisition.
For camera software we’re getting Director’s View, Vlogger’s View, Multi-Mic Recording, Single Shot 2.0, and more.
Zooming into subjects is also easier with a feature Zoom Lock. Tap on your subject and even if your hands are shaky the zoom will stay on the subject. Pretty handy!
Also, if its not obvious by now, all S21 units will pack 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi 6. The S21+ and Ultra will have UWB Tracking also.
Lastly, the newest feature that could change everything is that the S21 Ultra will now support the S Pen stylus! You can use most S Pens out there but Samsung will be selling an S21 Ultra case that has a nicely-sized stylus for better writing than even the Note devices. Crazy, we know!

The S21 (base) will feature a new glastic back which even if it doesn’t feel as premium as glass, it will last longer and will not shatter like glass phones do.
The S21, S21+, & S21 Ultra will forgo a MicroSD slot this year.
All variants of the S21 series will not have a headset or charger in the box. Samsung claims this will result in less wasted chargers and headphones that we just stow away in our cabinets never to use again.
So what do you think of the new S21 series? Let us know in the comments or in our FB community! Personally, we’re excited about the S Pen functionality as we really do use the stylus ourselves. We’re getting 5G which is huge, and improved performance and high refresh flat displays are always welcome. Some compromises were made especially with the base and plus variant, but we’re hoping its still worth the upgrade.
