Many corporates in the smartphone industry has been in the 5G race, Qualcomm as one of the biggest players, strives further with their latest release, the Snapdragon 480 5G chipset for budget devices.
The Snapdragon 480 5G is now built on the 8nm process per transistor, this is an improvement of what we have seen with its predecessor, the Snapdragon 460 at 11nm.
Also, Qualcomm swapped out the ARM Cortex-A73 CPU design for the newer ARM Cortex-A76 CPU. This makes it alike to the Snapdragon 730 microarchitecture with two high performing cores clocked at 2GHz and the other six, ARM Cortex-A55 cores, at 1.8GHz. Qualcomm promises a 100% uplift in CPU performance over 460.
The GPU gets a retouch with 100% performance improvement as well with the new Adreno 619 GPU, debuted on the Snapdragon 750G, making an appearance on the 480.
Aside from the CPU and GPU, the new chip sports an integrated 5G modem, the Snapdragon X51, that is capable of 2.5Gb/s downlink and 660Mb/s uplink.
It also supports up to 64MP cameras, 120Hz Full HD displays, WiFi 6 and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+
