Qualcomm has recently announced that they are working on budget 5G chips under the Snapdragon 400 series, known to cater for entry level devices. 5G capabilities have already appeared on Qualcomm’s midrange chips such as the Snapdragon 765 series and the Snapdragon 690.
This sets apart from the Snapdragon 865 with its more budget friendly price to brands that won’t take the bite on Qualcomm’s steep flagship chip prices. The Snapdragon 400 series is popular with its appearance to the budget segment.
Used by top dogs in the smartphone game such as Samsung, Xiaomi (already confirmed by themselves), OPPO, Vivo and others. Usually, the 400 series are watered down versions compared to the 600 series counterparts. Appearing mostly on smartphones beneath the US$200(PHP 10K) price point.
Qualcomm has not specified any of the specifications of the upcoming chip. They stated that it will arrive to devices at Q1 2021, that is months forward from now. A huge poise to the market bringing such capabilities on a much lower price point. 5G is accelerating as fast as its promised speeds, and capable handsets might be just around the corner.
