Vivo Allegedly Working Its Own Mobile Platform As Trademark Application Hint

Vivo, atleast from China, has been on a roll in releasing devices. Notably, their devices also sport assorted mobile platforms from other manufacturers. Their X series recently are tethered with Samsung’s Exynos. They are also a big customer from MediaTek and Qualcomm, donning their devices from their flagship NEX series to their midrange and budget devices.

Now, a snapshot from a tipster on Weibo shows the following trademarks that hint that Vivo is working their own chip. “Vivo SoC” and “Vivo chip” has been trademarked recently. This may hint that the Chinese firm has been working on their own mobile chip.

In case, Vivo smartphones may harness their in-house chip such as with Samsung with their Exynos and some of their smartphones or Huawei with their HiSilicon Kirin SoCs. This may mean that building their own silicon could result in cutting down costs and building the device within their hardware.

Although, it isn’t plain sailing when building their own. Xiaomi and LG already tried with the field but has failed because of issues on thermals and other hardware related areas, well atleast based on rumors.

Only time will tell if Vivo will succeed on the space or will end up as the others that didn’t fare well.
