Do you want to own something like an elegant Samsung Galaxy S10 with its premium punch-hole display but can’t spend US$750 / PHP 39,990 (or higher) for the South Korean tech brand’s flagship? Well you’re in luck because HMD has just announced the new Nokia X71 with a similar punch-hole display for only US$385 / PHP 20,000.

That is, if you buy it in Taiwan since that’s only where it was announced. Likely we have to wait for a more global version of it which will probably be called the Nokia 8.1 Plus.

The Nokia X71 (or Nokia 8.1 Plus) will pack a midrange Snapdragon 660 Processor, 3 rear cameras with a 48MP main snapper, 6GB RAM, stock Android One, and a 6.39″ FHD+ punch-hole 93% screen-to-body ratio display.

Nokia X71 (likely Nokia 8.1 Plus globally) – Est. US$385 / PHP 20,000

  • Snapdragon 660 Processor
  • 6.39″ 2316×1080 IPS Display with punch-hole
  • 48MP Main + 8MP Ultra wide + 5MP Depth Sensor Rear Cameras
  • 16MP Front Camera
  • Android 9.0 with Android One
  • 6GB RAM / 128GB ROM / MicroSD Expandable
  • Dual-SIM LTE (unsure if tri-slot or dual-slot)
  • Rear Fingerprint Scanner
  • 3,500 mAh Battery with 18w Quick Charger

These specs won’t necessarily blow your mind but the Snapdragon 660 should be good enough for most tasks including gaming and the rest are perfectly decent for a midrange phone. At the price of US$385, it’s not the cheapest with these specs (considering the Redmi Note 7 is less than half the cost), but the punch-hole display does look quite nice for this price point.

If it launches in the Philippines we’ll let you know but for now expect the X71 to show up in the Taiwanese market starting April 30th.
