Fellows, we’ve seen the future and it is glorious – the gloriousness of 60 amazing frames, delivered in one second. For years we’ve been stuck with YouTube playing back only a passable 30FPS, but now those days are over and the next generation of online video on demand is here, and boy is it pretty. While these may not be the best examples, we’ve experimented with our equipment to get you some short 60FPS gaming footage from a PS4. Here’s what they look like.
To watch these videos in 60FPS, you have to click the gear icon on the lower right and enable 720p @ 60FPS mode which replaces the 720HD mode for videos with higher frame rates. Once the video loads you’ll see the difference and how much more enjoyable videos will be from now on. (And yes, the improvement will be most felt on video game content.)
The above two videos of course include two games: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Minecraft. Both were running on a PS4 with output of 720p @ 60FPS. We wanted to try 1080p60 but we’ll save that for another day. So far, our compression bitrate (8MBPS) still lowers the sharpness of fast moving action, so we’ll have to correct that first. But anyway, did you notice how unbelievably smooth those videos were? Amazing.
Truly, we are at the cusp of a new next gen video on demand revolution. And what does that mean for you? That means you might see our tech related videos in 60FPS. Glorious!
