UPDATE: MyPhone has issued a software update for “old version” users updating them to a newer firmware with SD card installs. Read our guide on how to update here.

We rarely ever do this to phones and even more so when we’re in the process of reviewing them, but the MyPhone Agua Rio just gave us no choice. Its ridiculously limited 1.55GB of app space guaranteed that we couldn’t even test the games we wanted to test on it. But what about the SD card, you say? Well, you can’t install on that either – it’s the phone’s biggest flaw for unrooted users. And so, here we are – rooting and doing a memory swap on the phone so we can run games on it and continue our review. In case you already own one and want to do the same though, here’s how. (Watch the video to see it happen step-by-step.)

WARNING: If you do this wrong, your phone may get the "bootloop" problem. To be completely safe, backup your original ROM with ClockworkMod / ROM Manager. We will upload a tutorial later.

MyPhone Agua Rio Root & Memory Swap Guide

  1. Download and Install Framaroot – http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 (by: alephzain)
  2. Open Framaroot, Click Barahir, Reboot
  3. Download vold.fstab (copy to SD after) http://d-h.st/cHK (by: Edmhar Laoag & Team SMP)
  4. Backup vold.fstab, Copy new vold.fstab
  5. Change permissions to rw-r—r—.
  6. Reboot~
  7. Profit!

DISCLAIMER: This process will typically void your warranty and if you make a mistake it may damage the software on your phone. Keep a backup of the original vold.fstab on your internal storage and restore it if procedure fails.

So there you have it guys, a quick and easy Root & Memory Swap for your MyPhone Agua Rio. Hope that helps you out, but seriously this shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place if MyPhone just allowed SD installs by default.

UPDATE: MyPhone has issued a software update for “old version” users updating them to a newer firmware with SD card installs. Read our guide on how to update here.
