The HTC Chacha

Here’s an unboxing video of our newest smartphone in review – the HTC Chacha. Particularly known as one of the devices nicknamed as a "Facebook Phone", the Chacha is a QWERTY keyboard bar phone with a landscape screen. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Facebook phone if it didn’t have the well known Facebook sharing button – and it does have it on the lower right hand side. Combining Gingerbread with Sense UI, QWERTY keyboard, and the sharing button should prove to make the phone a lot more social and fun for its intended users – and that definitely comes off from how the device looks like too. The prepaid unit is priced from Smart at PHP 15,500, plus they also have it under Plans 1000 & 1500. Unlocked you can currently get one for about PHP 13,500 (CMKCellphones) and from other retailers.

The HTC Chacha is a QWERTY bar phone running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with some Sense UI customizations. It has an 800Mhz processor, 2.6” landscape screen at 480×320 resolution, 5MP camera with LED, front facing VGA camera, 480p (SD 720×480) video recording, and the usual Android connectivity options. It brings to the table some unique capabilities that only its form factor can deliver – particularly the always-there QWERTY keyboard, landscape screen and Facebook button. This type of device should prove to be popular among social people and those who like to keep up with their friends – since it provides for quicker typing and direct sharing. What this device offers beyond other QWERTY competitors’ OSes should be the added functionality of Android – giving users a much more flexible OS.

We’ll let you know more on what we think about the device in our upcoming review coverage, so for now enjoy our unboxing video just below!
