HTC Evo 3D
The wait is apparently over – the first 3D glasses-free phone to grace the Philippine shores (and probably the world) is going to be the powerhouse HTC Evo 3D. The new dual-core Android phone will be released into our local marketplace courtesy of Smart – though it might still end up as an unlocked phone later on. All the pertinent top tier features are present for this device, which brings its capabilities close to the current flagship HTC Sensation and competing dual-core phones. It’s main difference though will be the special LCD panel and stereoscopic cameras to show and capture 3D images and video – all without the need for 3D glasses or specialized equipment.
The HTC Evo 3D will be in the line for the highest spec’ed phones for this year – being part of the dual-core Android 2.3 competition. (It’s peers are of course the Samsung Galaxy S II, LG Optimus 2D, and HTC’s own Sensation.) It has a 4.3″ 960×540 high resolution screen, 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, 5MP + 5MP back camera with LED flash, 1.3MP front facing, and the usual connectivity options. What the 3D moniker of the phone brings is of course its extra dimensional capabilities – being able to capture 3D images or 720p 3D video. (It can also do 1080p 2D if you’re into that.) To consume the 3D content you make or view online, the phone features a glasses-free 3D capable LCD – simplifying the creation and consumption of triple dimensional media.
The phone will be launching first under Smart’s postpaid plans, but we hope they’ll also offer a prepaid kit. HTC has been teaming up with Smart as of late for timed exclusive phones, so we assume the Evo 3D will also be a timed exclusive. Which means you’ll be able to get one unlocked sooner or later. No price have been quoted thus far, but we’re going to estimate it’ll be on the neighborhood of PHP 30k.
You can check out the demo phone right now on Smart’s Jump Center in Megamall which opens to the public on August 12, Friday. Don’t run out to the nearest Smart store yet though – it’ll probably still be a while before the phone becomes fully available. So sit tight and start saving!
