It’s here! In the flesh!

We were recently at the Sony Summer Hotspots press event at Megamall Megatrade Hall 1 (will be open to public tomorrow!) and we’ve had the chance to play around with Sony’s new flagship Android device – the Xperia Arc. So what did we do? We asked the nice lady to hold the phone for us while we gave it a quick performance test! A trip through video playback, gallery functions, multitouch tests, double tap tests, and even a browser test with Flash playback. Video and more after the break!

What are you getting with an Xperia Arc anyway? Well the Xperia Arc is Sony Ericson’s new flagship device that will take the place of the Xperia X10. It is a sleek bar phone with a rather large 4.2” screen at 854×480 resolution run by a 1ghz processor and the usual top-dollar Android trimmings. Speaking of which, this is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread device – the latest Google has to offer and probably one of the first few phones to have it. Rounding out the features is a very specialized Exmor-R sensor with an aperture of f2.4. For photography fans, that might have just made their day – for everybody else, its suffice to say this camera will produce some great images as well as record 720p video at 30 frames per second.

Thin, with arched back. That’s how I like my women phones.

The phone has a special arcing back contour that is probably what the name is inspired from. With a razor thin 8.7mm thickness, it’s a wonder how they managed to cram a 1500mAh battery in it, but they did. There’s even an included HDMI output port on the side. And to improve movie and video playback, they also included a Mobile Bravia Engine for better contrast and color reproduction. Finally, the LCD has also been bumped up to what they call a Reality Display – which should look nicer than a regular LCD.

Sound pretty good? We think it is. We guess that Sony is stepping up their game this time for their Android lineup, and Arc definitely is a respectable powerhouse to compete for your pocket this year. With a rumored pricetag of about PHP 33k, it sounds just about right too.

And if you’re looking for that video – here it is. Watch how the Arc handles our not-so-scientific test of speed to see if the phone is for you!
