Samsung will continue to use Qualcomm on their S23 series ditching in-house chip

Despite Qualcomm stumbling on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the 888, Samsung seems to have dropped the ball when it comes to overtaking the San Diego chipmaker with their in-house Exynos chips. Part to blame is Samsung Foundries’ incomptent manufacturing process, though Qualcomm has used those too and still came into the lead. Now, this recent rumor suggests that Samsung will be using Qualcomm on all regions leaving their Exynos chips for the generation.

Ming Chi Kuo, usually tipping iPhone rumors, suggest that Samsung will be widely using the Qualcomm SM8550 mobile platform for the upcoming S23 series. The SM8550 is the part number of the chip succeeding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1, speculatively dubbed as “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2” by many.

Kuo quoted that the alleged Exynos 2300 chip cannot compete with the 8 Gen 2 in “all aspects”. These aspects, we assume, is in performance, efficiency and ISP efficacy. He also stated that SM8550 will be significantly better and has obvious advantages over SM8450/8475 (8Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1) as it is specifically designed to be fabbed by TSMC.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was also praised by known tipster Ice Universe from Twitter with it being better than 8 Gen 1, 8+ Gen 1, and 888 in power efficiency while being much more powerful.
