For a while now, the Philippines have been snobbed by the three console makers and didn’t officially support the selling of their products in our shores. Slowly over the last couple of console generations however, support has been growing – a big thanks to retailers of original games and hardware like DataBlitz, GameXtreme, iTech, and the like.
Today, in 2022, we do have a small bit of support from Sony as they officially carry their consoles here since the PS4. Though, we still can’t register our PSN accounts to be based in the Philippines (correct me if I’m wrong). Whereas Microsoft’s Xbox has never brought their consoles here officially – and players who like to enjoy their games have had to use workarounds and different region accounts to get by.
Nintendo was the same – until today possibly. We’ve caught news that the company has opened their new official Philippine website at nintendo.com/ph . While the site currently only has news, game details, and hardware information so far, this might mean more in the future.
Here’s hoping that it would eventually let us register accounts residing in the Philippines, with specific digital wallets and payment systems that work with our now diversifying online presence. Regional pricing would also be a nice bonus, as well as local events and promos.
For now, a website is better than nothing. Mabuhay, Nintendo!
