Xiaomi’s Mi Lite series, (Xiaomi Lite series?) has been a staple for stylish and eye catching devices. From the Mi 8 Lite to the Xiaomi 11 Lite, the Lite series usually consisted of the following key selling points, eye candy colors, above average cameras, decent performance and a lightweight profile. Now, Xiaomi seems to continue to stride with the series with another addition, the Xiaomi 12 Lite.


The Xiaomi 12 Lite, codenamed “taoyao” and bears a model number “L9″ will be having a Snapdragon 780/778G derivative SoC. The main shooter of the handset will be a Samsung ISOCELL GW3 shooter, which is a third generation 64MP setup from Samsung. The other two cameras is composed of a macro and an ultrawide sensor. The display is a curved AMOLED 120Hz refresh rate panel measuring at 6.55”. The panel will be akin to the Xiaomi CIVI that launched in China. Taoyao will be launching in global markets.

Meanwhile, a China exclusive Xiaomi 12 Lite is also on the works. This is dubbed as Xiaomi 12 Lite Zoom, codenamed “zijin”, “L9B”. Like the Xiaomi 12 Lite, it also bears the same SoC or a derivative of it, the same Samsung GW3 sensor, display is also 6.55″ curved OLED that refreshes at 120Hz. But will harbor a telephoto shooter that will be absent on the global version.

Both devices will have their fingerprint scanners integrated on the display, contrary to recent Xiaomi devices with sidemounted scanners even with an OLED panel, i.e. the POCO F3.

The devices is suspected to run on Android 12, MIUI 13 and will get two Android updates. As for the launch, the handset is rumored to be announced in March with its model number starting at 22 03, indicating March of 2022.
