Samsung finally unveiled their latest midrange processor to succeed the Exynos 980, the 1080. The chip has been famous in the rumor mill with the alleged benchmark scores shared by Ice Universe beating the Snapdragon 865 Plus. Now, detailed specifications are now announced.

This includes an ARM Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 CPU design. There are four ARM Cortex-A78 cores which three of them clocks at 2.6GHz and the top core maxes out at 2.8GHz. The other four cores are ARM Cortex-A55 for efficiency which runs at 2GHz. The CPU is paired with a Mali G78 GPU. The graphics processor has a total of 10 shader cores.

Aside from the processing prowess, the chip also packs support for LPDDR5 RAM, Bluetooth 5.2, up to 200MP camera sensor support, UFS 3.1 flash memory, 4K 60fps recording and up to Quad HD screens at 90Hz or 1080p displays at 144Hz.

All of this power is manufactured by Samsung in its latest 5nm EUV process. Which they claim improves on efficiency by 25% and performance by 10%.

The chip is expected to be powering future Samsung devices and also the upcoming Vivo X60 series to be released in China before the year ends.

It is also possible that other Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi, OPPO, realme and others would take a grab of this silicon in the future as well.
