Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 series has been the staple for Android flagships alike for the past few years. Now, there are rumors that Qualcomm may have some key changes with the series.

The Snapdragon 865 Plus, one of the fastest mobile platform around

Leakster Digital Chat Station shared more information regarding about this. In his Weibo post indicate that a “Snapdragon 875 Lite” has been gossiped through OPPO’s alleged meeting. There are also mentions of a “Snapdragon 860” in the Weibo post.

While the next flagship processor name is not yet confirmed, the rumor of a toned-down version of it is fascinating.

The Snapdragon 860 might be a toned-down Snapdragon 865 which has been the superstar in this year’s Android flagship devices.

Eyeing on this rumor, Qualcomm might be preparing stripped down versions of their mobile platforms to bridge the gap in performance even further, even greater of what the Snapdragon 700 series is tasked to. In addition to that, the Lite versions might be an answer to Qualcomm continuously driving their flagship platforms’ prices up. The hikes has lead to LG withdrawing in getting a flagship chip with the Velvet, and currently rumored, Google with their Pixel 5.

Connected to their chips getting more expensive, MediaTek has been garnering success with their Dimensity series offering 5G and phenomenal performance with the fraction of Qualcomm’s prices. The addition of the “Lite” series could be the San Diego firm’s trump card to that.
