It was just over two weeks ago since Honor had introduced HiSilicon’s newest midrange chip with the recently launched Honor 30S, the Kirin 820 5G. But recently with rumors, another midrange chip has surfaced and it has the “Kirin 985” moniker.
Steve McFly of OnLeaks has shared some information of a device under the Honor 30 series. His sources suggest that the device will have a custom 50MP Primary sensor from Sony with a Sony IMX 7XX branding. This is similar on what we have found on the Huawei P40 devices released just recently. The primary camera is aided by a 12MP shooter for ultrawide capabilities. A telephoto camera of 8MP is also reported, which has up to 3x optical zoom.
The Kirin 985 will be on the device and according to him, this will support the new customized sensor from Sony. This suggests that the chip’s ISP has muscle to chug in the same sensor found on the Huawei P40 series. Going along with its name, this may outperform the just released Kirin 820 from its Honor 30S sibling. The Kirin 820 which was already a powerful midranger even goes on par with the Snapdragon 855, last year’s flagship SoC from Qualcomm, in some of the popular benchmarks. So it would be interesting to see a chip positioned higher on the roster.
The device will arrive this April 15 in China.
