The Kirin 820 packs a brawn as Huawei flex its strength at a midrange chip. The Kirin 820 mobile platform is yet to be featured at a device, and its upgraded version is already rumored.
According to rumors from xianjingmaoxian, the alleged “Kirin 985” has a research code of Tucson. Not yet is known about the device regarding its microarchitecture and other hardware features. Although, it is safe to assume that the Kirin 985 will be an upgrade for the Kirin 820.
The Kirin 820 packs a punch. It has an upgraded NPU and ISP over the Kirin 810. The chip is also built on a 7nm fabrication process and touts a Mali G77 GPU. Benchmarks suggest that the Kirin 820 itself can challenge Qualcomm’s previous flagship generation platform, the Snapdragon 855.

Also, the Kirin 820 is expected to be equipped with a integrated 5G modem. This is one of the midrange chipsets that features an integrated modem, challenging Exynos’ 980, Snapdragon’s 765 series and MediaTek’s midrange Dimensity series.
The Kirin 820 will be featured on the Honor 30S to be released in China this March 30.If this materializes, the Kirin 985 will harbor a lot of power under its name, and its “predecessor” the Kirin 820, suggests that it is the case. Huawei or Honor is yet to confirm the existence of this chipset. So take this with a grain of salt
