IceUniverse, a popular tipster, has shared photos on his Weibo account. According to the images he has shown, this revealed the first internal testing of Apple’s upcoming system on a chip (SoC).
The image shows a Geekbench 5 result of the said SoC. The single-core and multi-core scores are 1658 and 4612 respectively. This is a noticeable 25% and 33% uplift compared to its predecessor, the Apple A13 Bionic found on the iPhone 11 series. It has also outscored Qualcomm’s best SoC to date for the Android platform, the Snapdragon 865.
In the image, it is also indicated that the upcoming Apple SoC is a hexa-core CPU and will top at about 3.1GHz in clock speeds. If true, this is the first SoC that will breach the 3.0GHz clock speed.
Rumors also surface about the a Apple A14. One of them is the Apple A14 will be built on a 5nm Low Power Early (LPE) fabrication process by TSMC. Another is that the Apple A14 is expected to be one of the first SoCs to be built on the 5nm node. This is alongside with the heavily rumored HiSilicon Kirin 1020 which is reported to have a 50% improvement compared to their previous generation.
The Apple A14 is expected to be equipped on the iPhone series to be released later this year. It will be soon that 5nm SoCs will hit the market.
